Add some extra storage with a coffee table

Coffee tables are an excellent choice for any living room, even if you run a little short on space. We offer various coffee tables with storage that you can use to store away smaller items such as books, magazines, remotes and much more. Keep everything securely out of sight with built-in drawers that are easy to access, or use the lower shelf available in some coffee tables.

A coffee table to complement any living room

Looking for a timeless edition to suit a traditional living room? Or maybe you want something on-trend that will make a contemporary room pop? We have a coffee table at Make It Homely to suit any interior. From glass coffee tables that are effortlessly stylish to metal to create a modern coffee table to suit a wide range of homes.

Where do you put a coffee table?

Coffee tables are usually placed in the living room in front of a sofa or armchair. They are typically designed to be placed in front of a sofa with enough space to move around without running into the risk of injuring yourself. Make sure your modern coffee table is easily within reach so you can quickly grab your drink or book!

How much space do you need around a coffee table?

Make sure that you have enough space for navigating around the edges without bumping into it whilst still being able to access the tabletop! Ideally, you'll want at least 30cm of space between the edge of your sofa and your coffee table. In contrast, we'd recommend doubling that (60cm) between your table and any other furniture, such as a display cabinet or TV unit.

Should my coffee table be the same height as my sofa?

Your coffee table should ideally be around the same height as the cushions on your sofa, and we recommend that it be a few centimetres shorter. This will allow you to place drinks, magazines and more on the surface and reach them easily without making your table too obtrusive. On top of this, if your coffee table is much higher than your sofa, it might look a bit odd!

How to choose the shape of your coffee table

Choosing the right one depends on what sofa style you have and how much room you have available. Round coffee tables, for example, are perfect for sofas with unusual shapes, such as L-shaped or even U-shaped sofas, as they take up a smaller amount of space and create the illusion of more space. A round coffee table is also a great choice for families with children, as there are no sharp corners to worry about!

On the other hand, square coffee tables can be used with traditional sofas and are a popular option for any room size. Pair one with a contemporary fabric sofa, or create a luxurious impression by complementing a velvet sofa with a modern coffee table!
