There are two main types of sofa beds available to purchase on Make It Homely:

• Pull-out sofa beds - effortlessly pull these out to create a cosy sleep space.
• Clic-clac sofa beds - a simple clic-clac mechanism allows you to push down the back of the sofa and transform the frame into a comfy sleeping area.

There are different ways to get the most out of your sofa bed depending on the type purchased. If you have opted for a pull-out sofa bed, first you will need to remove any top cushions from the sofa. To open the bed, simply pull the frame out from the centre and a pair of legs will also fold into place. Unfold the rest of the base, along with the second set of legs if required, and you’re all set.

For clic-clac sofa beds, you can quickly convert the item through its easy opening mechanism. Simply fold the back of the sofa forwards until you hear a click, then fold it back until it lays flat. Repeat the process in reverse order to return the item to its original sofa shape. All Make It Homely sofa beds include thorough instructions so please refer to these when assembling your product.

There is no standard size for sofa beds, as there are several styles available. Here at Make It Homely, our sofa beds come in a range of sizes to accommodate various home styles. We offer both single sofa beds and double sofa beds, which provide the same amount of space as their bed counterparts, as well as two-seater and three-seater options.

You do not need to purchase a mattress for the majority of sofa beds available on Make It Homely. Most usually come with a sofa sleeper to ensure the product is practical and convenient.

When measuring up for a sofa bed, it is important to remember that the full measurements need to be taken into account. Start by measuring the width and length of the intended space, and then compare this to the item’s dimensions listed on the product page. Then, also compare the measurements of the sofa bed pulled out to ensure that it will fit into your home.

The best way to keep your sofa bed in good condition is through regular cleaning and vacuuming. Treat the item as you would any other sofa depending on material. Our product care guides offer advice based on the specific material of your sofa bed.

Sofa beds are best used sporadically. It is not advised that they are used every night, but they can be used for a long period if required. A full bed frame and mattress will always be better than a sofa bed, however, if you live in limited space or if other factors prevent a more suitable set-up, a sofa bed can be the best alternative for a few weeks or months.

Contrary to popular belief, sofa beds are just as comfy to sit on as regular sofas. Some may seem slightly firmer due to the cushions being placed on a frame rather than a sprung seat unit, however, you can add your own cushions or mattress toppers to tailor the sofa bed to your personal comfort preference.
